Because fibromyalgia is a chronic condition that can be difficult to manage, some Arkansas patients can explore medical marijuana as another option to discuss with their marijuana doctor.
The good news for Arkansas residents is that fibromyalgia is specifically recognized as a qualifying condition for the Arkansas Medical Marijuana Program.

What Is Fibromyalgia?

Does Fibromyalgia Qualify for Medical Marijuana in Arkansas?

Fibromyalgia is specifically included on the Arkansas Department of Health's list of qualifying medical conditions for the state's medical marijuana program.

A chronic or debilitating disease/medical condition/treatment that produces one or more of the following:
Intractable pain, or pain that has not responded to ordinary treatment or surgical methods for more than 6 months
Severe and persistent muscle spasms, including those characteristics of multiple sclerosis (MS)
Any other medical condition or its treatment approved by the Arkansas Board of Health
Having a qualifying diagnosis does not automatically provide access to medical marijuana. Patients must still satisfy the state's eligibility requirements and receive the required physician certification.
Why Do Some Fibromyalgia Patients Consider Medical Marijuana?

How to Get an Arkansas Medical Marijuana Card for Fibromyalgia
Arkansas residents with fibromyalgia must complete the state's medical marijuana certification and application process.
1. Have a Qualifying Medical Condition
Fibromyalgia is already included on Arkansas's qualifying conditions list.
Medical records documenting your diagnosis can be useful when meeting with a physician for your medical marijuana evaluation.
2. Receive a Physician-Written Certification
Patients must obtain the official physician-written certification required by the Arkansas Department of Health.
The certifying physician must meet Arkansas requirements and determine whether the patient has a qualifying debilitating medical condition.
3. Submit Your Arkansas Medical Marijuana Application
After receiving the required certification, patients can apply for their registry identification card through the Arkansas Department of Health.
Applicants generally need proof of Arkansas residency, their physician certification, the completed application, and the applicable state fee.
4. Wait for State Approval
Once an application has been submitted, the Arkansas Department of Health reviews it. According to the state, processing may take up to 14 days after the application and payment are received.
Approved patients can then use their medical marijuana registry card in accordance with Arkansas law.
How Much Medical Marijuana Can Arkansas Patients Purchase?
Registered qualifying patients in Arkansas may purchase up to 2.5 ounces of medical marijuana from licensed dispensaries during a 14-day period.
Purchases count toward a patient's rolling balance, so the amount does not simply reset on a specific day every two weeks.
Patients should always purchase medical marijuana through properly licensed Arkansas dispensaries and follow current possession and purchasing rules.
Can You Get an Arkansas Medical Marijuana Certification Through Telehealth?
Arkansas allows medical marijuana renewals to be completed through telehealth when conducted in accordance with Arkansas Medical Board rules.
Patients should make sure they understand whether their particular appointment qualifies for telehealth and whether additional requirements apply to an initial certification.

No treatment is appropriate for every person with fibromyalgia.
