Arkansas medical marijuana patients have a lot to look forward to this month, with 4/20 coming up next week, as well as the exciting news that one of the world’s biggest cannabis brands will be opening a retail location in the Natural State.
The Arkansas medical marijuana program has largely been a success thus far, offering patients with qualifying conditions a wide variety of cannabis products as an alternative to traditional pharmaceutical treatments.
One new product that is showing up on dispensary shelves is NSM’s Cryocure Cannabis, a specific type of cannabis flower that uses inventive techniques to preserve cannabinol before degrading and leaving behind a bigger, fluffier bud.
In this article, we’ll cover what Cryocure Cannabis is, what the benefits are, and what you need to know about the latest product to hit the Arkansas medical marijuana market.
Cryocure’s “Freeze Dried” Cannabis Flower in Arkansas
Cryocure Cannabis is Like Freeze Drying, But Better!
Cannabis plants have to go through several steps before they are enjoyed by patients.
After successfully growing from seed to plant and reaching the harvesting stage, cannabis plants are normally trimmed and then cured, which dries the plants over time to remove moisture while balancing environmental factors to prevent molds and degradation.
The cannabis curing process can be particularly tricky, as it requires a perfect balance of humidity, light, and temperature. If these parameters aren’t maintained adequately, the cannabis can suffer from a variety of problems, such as mold infestations, lower terpene counts, and degraded cannabinoid levels.
Cryocure offers an alternative to the curing process, where plants are immediately frozen at specific temperatures and pressures to keep the highest level of cannabinoids and terpenes present while removing moisture quickly.
This takes the curing process from several weeks down to just one day in most cases, offering cultivators a much quicker timeline to get their products on dispensary shelves.
Cryocure Cannabis is Good for Cultivators and Patients
Cultivators aren’t the only ones who benefit from Cryocure Cannabis.
Patients will enjoy much larger buds, better taste and flavor, and higher THC percentages from cannabis that has been cryo-cured.
Cannabis flower buds that have gone through the cryocure process can be almost twice as large as traditional cannabis flower, making buds not only more attractive visually, but also provide better relief to patients. Furthermore, trichomes are also more abundant with cryocure cannabis, and since the terpenes are better preserved, the flavor and aroma is known to be better as well.
When cannabis is properly cryocured, it offers a much more preserved product than traditional curing can offer, and it cuts weeks off the production timeline.
Cryocuring isn’t perfect, though, and you wouldn’t be able to effectively freeze dry cannabis without a Cryocure machine. Cannabis that isn’t cryocured properly will be hard, brittle, dry, flavorless, and unappealing visually. That’s because the cryocure machines that are used to properly cure cannabis using the freezing technique uses specific temperatures and pressurization to preserve terpenes and cannabinoids.
Where to Find Cryocure Cannabis in Arkansas
Natural State Medicinals Only Cryocure Cannabis in Arkansas
Currently, Natural State Medicinals (NSM) are the only cultivators pursuing the cryocure technique in Arkansas, though we hope other cultivators catch on to the trend in the near future..
You can find NSM’s cryocure strains in many dispensaries in Arkansas, though the ones we’ve seen so far have been:
· Curaleaf - Little Rock, AR
· Custom Cannabis - Alexander, AR
· Harvest Cannabis - Conway, AR
· Natural Relief Dispensary - Sherwood, AR
There are a variety of cryocure strain options to choose from, too, with some popular options being:
· Burkle
· OG Kush
These staple strains should be an easy buy for patients familiar with them because their cryocured variants should be bigger, fluffier, and more potent. Though, make sure that’s the case before purchasing, because cannabis that hasn’t been cryocured properly will look exactly the opposite, drier, thinner, smaller, and less flavorful and potent.
Why Cryocure Cannabis is a Big Deal for Arkansas Medical Marijuana Patients
Cryocure cannabis, when executed properly, looks and tastes incredible. Cutting back processing times for cultivators is certainly an extra bonus too, since it can help get products on dispensary shelves quicker.
But one of the biggest benefits of upgrading Arkansas’ cultivator technology is with products that could come shortly thereafter, namely, live resin.
We’ve seen live resin in the state sparingly, with River Valley Relief’s live resin run, though consistent live resin has been extremely hard to come by in Arkansas. A heavier focus on frozen cannabis could lean NSM heavier into concentrates, where their main products have been vape cartridges.
The State desperately needs more upscale concentrate products, and live resin or live rosin would be a significant upgrade from the poor-performing hash we’ve seen from Arkansas cultivators so far. Executing AAA grade concentrates is a big challenge to take on, and considering the low-level products that have been passed around the Natural State, it would be a huge achievement for many cultivators.
But with the focus on higher quality products we’re seeing from cultivators like NSM, RVR, and Delta, better hash products might not be too far from the future for Arkansas medical marijuana patients.
