The Story Behind Rick Simpson Oil

If you are a medical marijuana patient or cannabis activist, chances are that you have heard the term “RSO'' before. So what exactly is “RSO”? RSO is an acronym that stands for Rick Simpson Oil, which is a concentrated cannabis product that is used to treat several medical conditions, including cancer.

Former hospital engineer, Rick Simpson, never intended on creating a new medical marijuana product. However, Rick suffered from a significant injury while he was working as a hospital engineer. After his accident, Rick kept experiencing ringing in his ears along with dizziness for several years. He became interested in the medicinal benefits of cannabis and asked his doctor if it could possibly help treat his symptoms. However, Rick's doctor rejected to consider marijuana treatment. Despite the feedback from the doctor, Rick began experimenting with marijuana on his own time.

Rick watched multiple documentaries about marijuana and the benefits it provided for countless medical conditions and decided to try it for himself. Over time, he began to notice a major improvement in his health. In 2003, Rick noticed small bumps on his arm which turned out to be skin cancer. He had previously used marijuana to treat other symptoms, but now he was interested in trying to use it to treat his skin cancer after he discovered a study that concluded THC was found to kill cancer cells in mice. Rick was able to treat his skin cancer by applying a topical form of cannabis oil to his arm and covering it for several days before taking it off. After only 4 days, he noticed that the bumps on his arm were gone.

Despite his discovery, Rick's doctor refused to recognize that the cannabis oil was responsible for treating and removing the bumps on his arm, which ultimately led to Rick facing threats of arrest in Canada. Rick made it a priority to advocate and speak out regarding the medicinal benefits marijuana had to offer and how it helped treat his condition. He wanted to make sure that others weren’t rejected access to this remarkable treatment due to a lack of understanding by some individuals in the medical community.

There are multiple different ways to consume RSO, but it is recommended that you first consult with your physician, pharmacist, or budtender to see what will work best for your symptoms and medical conditions. Rick created a 12-week regimen that was designed to help patients get the maximum benefits from using the cannabis oil. It was suggested that patients consume an amount as small as a half a grain of rice up to 3x a day for the first week. For weeks 2-5, it then suggested that patients gradually increase the dosage by doubling the amount of oil consumed every four days. Finally, from weeks 5-12 the objective is to consume up to 1 gram of RSO daily until reaching a full 60 grams. While this is just one suggested method on how to obtain the benefits of RSO, we still recommend discussing a treatment plan with your doctor and budtender so that you can achieve your individual treatment goals.
